Dr. Martens is celebrating its 50th anniversary by enlisting ten contemporary bands and ten film directors to cover ten cult classic songs. The seventh and latest track in the series is N.A.S.A.’s re-interpretation of Max Romeo and The Upsetters classic reggae anthem “I Chase the Devil.” Having collaborated with heads as diverse as M.I.A., Karen O and Tom Waits on their masterful debut LP The Spirit of Apollo, it was anyone’s guess as to what direction N.A.S.A. would take. After hours spent crunching real tape loops and experimenting with the dubbing to get exactly the right “stoned, spacey feel,” the production on the track sparkles. The animated video that accompanies is every inch as virtuoso with humor and imagination in excess. Don Letts has broken boundaries left, right and center in his film work and this video continues that spirit of exploration with extra-powerful visuals. Reply or submit feedback to request the limited edition 7-inch vinyl! The 50 Years of Dr. Martens series also features music by Noisettes, The Duke Spirit, DaM-Funk, Buraka Som Sistema, The Cinematic Orchestra, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Watch all the videos, download the free MP3’s in the collection, and check back for more coming soon from The Raveonettes, Michael Davis of MC5 & D.O.A., and VERBAL + YOON at 50.drmartens.com. |

After 2 million records sold and 400 concerts worldwide, Gotan Project – founded by Philippe Cohen Solal, Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H. Müller – are back with their third studio album, the magnificent Tango 3.0. In this digital DJ promo, Victor Hugo Morales, the legendary Argentinean football commentator, lends his vocals to the first single “La Gloria” (paying homage to his famous goal proclamation that soundtracked Marradonna’s infamous 2nd goal against England). Montreal’s Ghislain Poirier turns up the bassbin-rattling b-line and piles on the Funky percussion for his remix. The group completes its cinematic vision and sonic exploration for “La Gloria” with a new video. |

The Spy From Cairo is secretly Moreno Visini, the artist formerly known as Zeb, who’s reimerged with a new album, Secretly Famous. An effort by The Spy From Cairo to consolidate as much Middle Eastern music as possible, every track focuses on a particular style of music from the Arab countries – all with his signature Oud playing & dubbed out electronic stylings – from the fierce sounds of the Mizmar and Nay in “Nayphony” (which is an adaptation of traditional Jordanian music) to “Ana Arabi,” a song about being an Arab (not a terrorist) with beautifully sung lyrics by Ghalia Benali. |
