After 2 million records sold and 400 concerts worldwide, Gotan Project – founded by Philippe Cohen Solal, Eduardo Makaroff and Christoph H. Müller – are back with their third studio album, the magnificent Tango 3.0. In this digital DJ promo, Victor Hugo Morales, the legendary Argentinean football commentator, lends his vocals to the first single “La Gloria” (paying homage to his famous goal proclamation that soundtracked Marradonna’s infamous 2nd goal against England). Montreal’s Ghislain Poirier turns up the bassbin-rattling b-line and piles on the Funky percussion for his remix. The group completes its cinematic vision and sonic exploration for “La Gloria” with a new video. |

Munich’s Jazz & Milk Recordings has come up with another dancefloor smasher in Jazz & Milk Breaks Compilation Series Vol 2 of its compilation series. Brilliant international producers and musicians from Barcelona, London, Tokyo, New York, Warsaw, San Sebastian and Munich joined the project and left their individual and often exotic trademarks on this genre-breaking compilation. Taking in fusions of Jazz, Latin, Afro and Funk with eclectic productions, this is all designed for forward thinking dancefloors and minds. This DJ sampler brings you four of the best tracks on the compilation. Labelhead and Jazz & Milk Breaks compiler Dusty remixed the 13-piece afro-funk group, The Boogoos, creating an electrifying mixture of vintage live sounds and heavy beats. Panama-born percussion maestro César Granados and his latin-jazz combo come up with a breathtaking version of Dizzie Gillespie’s classic tune “Manteca.” Envee opens up the floor with his outstanding jazz dance version of Pinnawela’s tune “You Can Dance.” And Brooklyn’s trusted Greenwood Rhythm Coalition keep the wheels spinning with “Cotonou Caravan.” Watch out for limited editions with handmade artwork! |

Cuban soul rocker and Juno award-winner Alex Cuba delivers his sophomore full-length, Agua Del Pozo. Although he hails from Artemisa, Cuba (1 hour west of Havana) and resides in Smithers, B.C. (14 hours north of Vancouver), musically he lives everywhere in between. His sugarcane-sweet melodies, pop-soul hooks and rock chords subvert commonly held notions of what Cuban music is. The title track, built on a classic, oldschool two-chord salsa vamp and an infectious dance groove, perfectly highlights Cuba’s electric guitar solos. Also included in this album sampler is the ska-tinged “Tu Boca Lo Quita,” wherein Cuba’s tongue-in-cheek lyrics have him yearning for elusive pleasures. |
