Agape Featuring Nadia Harris’ EP1 Remixed follows up 2010’s EP1 with remixes by friends from around the world. In this digital DJ promo, Agape’s own Miami-Bronx-bomber Erick Paredes drops a heavy payload on “She Really Likes It” in the form of a live electronic dub. Rio de Janeiro’s producer/DJ Marcelinho Da Lua and partner-in-crime Angelo B turn in a stellar remix in fine Brazilian Bollywood Drum & Bass stylee. Not to be outdone by his big brother, Patrick Paredes concocts an indie-ish analog banger. The multi-talented, Peruvian-born French-Londoner, Simbad delivers a euphoric blow-up in his house remix of “I And I.” And tapping into his Jamaican & Panamanian roots, the prolific Kaje (Trackheadz) burns a hole on the dancefloor with live acoustic guitar plucks and a sexy Latin bounce. The full EP1 Remixed also features the vocal remix by Erick Paredes, as well as additional remixes by Marcelo Yuka, Digitaldubs, Basic Soul Unit, and Omar Suardy (DHM).

DJ PROMO: Easy Star All-Stars – Dubber Side of the Moon Album Sampler

October 13th, 2010

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Inspired by the burgeoning dub step scene and dub visionaries such as On-U Sound’s Adrian Sherwood and Mad Professor, the Easy Star All-Stars have compiled Dubber Side of the Moon (out October 26), the ultimate remix collection of their much lauded reggae smash Dub Side of The Moon. Each track features a unique dub producer exploring spaced-out reggae and bass-heavy remixes of the original Dub Side of the Moon, a reggae tribute to Pink Floyd’s iconic Dark Side of the Moon. In this digital DJ promo, the All-Stars’ resident soundman The Alchemist’s interpretation of “Money” is a dub step bass bleeder. Kalbata’s might be the most innovative mix on the album. Israeli born and signed to Soul Jazz Records, his mix merges the tech sound into dub-step. Boston’s mysterious 10 Ft Ganja Plant, Groove Corporation and Border Crossing also provide roots heavy remixes to the album.

The Dubber Side full-length also includes 4 bonus remixes (as well as 2 additional bonus tracks exclusive to the iTunes release).

DJ PROMO – N.A.S.A. – “Chase The Devil” (Max Romeo)

August 6th, 2010

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Dr. Martens is celebrating its 50th anniversary by enlisting ten contemporary bands and ten film directors to cover ten cult classic songs. The seventh and latest track in the series is N.A.S.A.’s re-interpretation of Max Romeo and The Upsetters classic reggae anthem “I Chase the Devil.” Having collaborated with heads as diverse as M.I.A., Karen O and Tom Waits on their masterful debut LP The Spirit of Apollo, it was anyone’s guess as to what direction N.A.S.A. would take. After hours spent crunching real tape loops and experimenting with the dubbing to get exactly the right “stoned, spacey feel,” the production on the track sparkles. The animated video that accompanies is every inch as virtuoso with humor and imagination in excess. Don Letts has broken boundaries left, right and center in his film work and this video continues that spirit of exploration with extra-powerful visuals.

Reply or submit feedback to request the limited edition 7-inch vinyl!

The 50 Years of Dr. Martens series also features music by Noisettes, The Duke Spirit, DaM-Funk, Buraka Som Sistema, The Cinematic Orchestra, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Watch all the videos, download the free MP3’s in the collection, and check back for more coming soon from The Raveonettes, Michael Davis of MC5 & D.O.A., and VERBAL + YOON at 50.drmartens.com.

DJ PROMO: Kabanjak – Dub To Go EP

July 16th, 2010

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Switchstance Recordings musician, producer and DJ, Kabanjak makes a foray into bass-heavy territory with his Dub To Go EP. In the title track, he combines ultra-low bass with inspired drum breaks, a deep organ and loads of subtle effects into an epic reverie, with all parts played and recorded by Kabanjak. “Dub To Go (Ancient Astronauts Remix)” sees Kabanjak reunited with his longtime Ancient Astronauts collaborator, Dogu. Together, they shape the track into a proper piece of bass-laden funkin’ and skankin’ music. “Wishcraft” presents yet another interpretation of Dub music, enhanced by funky, almost rock drums as well as guitar and flute licks.

Available on vinyl and digital July 30th, the Dub To Go EP represents the first teaser for the upcoming Kabanjak solo album Tree of Mystery, which will be released by ESL Music in Fall of 2010.

DJ PROMO: Nitin Sawhney – ‘London Undersound’ Album Sampler

August 21st, 2009

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

London Undersound is the eighth studio album by the multi-talented musician Nitin Sawhney. Supported by a truly amazing list of guest stars including Sir Paul McCartney, Imogen Heap, Spanish fusion sensations Ojos de Brujo and Anoushka Shankar, Nitin Sawhney has solidified his international reputation as a driving force in thought-provoking, progressive, alternative sounds. This digital DJ sampler includes "Last Train To Midnight," a heavy, dubstep number that features sounds and rhythms of the tube system and singer Aruba Red. Built around a drum and bass track in an unusual 6/8 time signature, "Bring It Home" featuring Imogen Heap, has a distinctly celebratory tone, while "Shadowland" is an instrumental track (with voices used as an instrument) with Ojos De Brujo, the nine-piece band from Barcelona. According to Sawhney, it works really well when he is DJ-ing in clubs. Although, he is quick to point out that this is not a club album but a multicultural urban masterpiece that reflects contemporary London’s ever-changing heartbeat.
